Cleanup of bird-infested areas is a first priority and is usually completed before a full exclusion program is started. Proper disinfecting of a site is extremely important. The main goal must be to kill all disease agents at the site so they no longer pose a heath hazard to occupants. Any bird site cleanup or disinfecting must be prepared by trained technicians. Improper clean up can cause many contaminants to become airborne and make the situation even worse. Contaminated dust can be brought into a building through air handling equipment. Fleas, ticks, mites and other ecotoparasites thrive in and around bird’s nests and accumulated droppings. These same pests can infiltrate buildings and spread diseases.

Exclusion:
There are many bird control exclusion products, materials and devices available for our industry to utilize. Some work and others are a waste of money. Each customer’s house and problem needs to be analyzed on an individual basis, according to construction, location of problem, monetary means and extent of infestation.
Structural modifications which either physically excludes the pigeons from their roosting or nesting areas or makes it difficult for the birds to rest comfortably in these areas seem to be an effective solution. It is extremely important to apply the appropriate products and installation methods for the particular type of bird problem. This is why professional installation is so important. In the long run, it will save the customer time and money, and unnecessary frustration.

Trapping Program:
When a property becomes infested with a flock of pigeons (six or more), a non-lethal alternative for pigeon removal is baiting and trapping. Typically a trapping program should take up to 30 days. Our pigeon-trapping program requires site selection, trap installation, pre-baiting, trapping and bird removal. After the completion of the trapping program, a final cleaning and sanitation is recommended.
Flock Dispersal:
The program of flock dispersal consists of the following procedure: Installation of bait stations at specific target areas where the pest birds normally roost and perch. Initially, a pre-bait feed is used to attract the birds and become accustomed to the feeding stations. After the birds begin to regularly feed from the bait stations, we substitute a material called “Avitrol” that contains flock-alarming properties, Once ingested it will cause the bird to react in a way that will frighten the remaining flock away from the site.
